OUR YOUTH, OUR FUTURE: IT’S TIME TO STAND UP FOR THEIR RIGHTS AND SAFETY
Children and young people are not just the leaders of tomorrow—they are citizens of today. They have rights that deserve protection, voices that deserve to be heard, and dreams that deserve every opportunity to flourish.
Over two meaningful learning sessions, young participants courageously shared their realities, reflected on their rights, and spoke honestly about the challenges they face every day. Their stories were not simply personal experiences—they were urgent reminders that protecting children requires collective action.
THESE ARE NOT FAVORS—THESE ARE OUR RIGHTS
Many young people shared that they once believed education, safety, healthcare, and the opportunity to speak were privileges granted by adults. Through the session, they discovered an important truth: Rights are not given by parents, schools, or the government. They belong to every person simply because we are human.
Grounded in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, participants learned the four fundamental rights: Survival, Development, Participation, and Protection. They also recognized that children are rights holders while adults and institutions are duty bearers responsible for respecting, protecting, and fulfilling those rights.
WE SEE THE DANGERS—PLEASE LISTEN AND ACT
Participants openly discussed concerns about school safety, substance use, rushed security inspections, and the lack of sustained action after incidents are reported. They also shared how they often notice warning signs among their peers before adults do, calling for stronger school safety measures, trained security personnel, and consistent follow-up.
OUR FEELINGS MATTER TOO
Young people reflected on the emotional challenges they face, emphasizing that sadness, anger, confusion, and fear are normal human emotions. They stressed that asking for help is a sign of courage and called for safe spaces, accessible counseling, and communities that listen without judgment.
RIGHTS ARE MEANINGLESS WITHOUT ACTION
Protecting children is a shared responsibility. Rights remain empty promises when safety concerns are ignored, reports are forgotten, and mental health is overlooked.
WE CALL FOR URGENT ACTION—FOR US, WITH US
• Strengthen school safety through regular inspections and accountability.
• Expand drug prevention education and counseling.
• Prioritize accessible mental health services.
• Include children and young people in decisions affecting their lives.

The time to act is now—because our children cannot wait.
